God save the Queen!
And please put the Euro out of its misery. My favorite part in this Washington Post article is where Cameron smugly talks about how thrilled he was that the Brits kept the pound and forwent the Euro. The article made me think, though, that perhaps the whole thing was a brilliant plot by Sarkozy. I mean, France has pretty much been a doormat for anyone who ever invaded. The only question you hear asked in a French military exercise is "how quickly can we surrender?" But the tables may be turning. Sarkozy is using crushing debt, austerity programs and centralized regulations to take over Europe. And he is getting the Germans to foot the bill! Come on, that's brilliant. You can't beat 'em, so impoverish them. Of course, it could be an even better strategy by the German's. They have historically been able to win all the battles, but in the end they get all those countries taken back away from them. This time they may end up getting everything. I have to do a little legal research, but I think they just supported a proposal that would let them foreclose on Europe.

If you look a little bit historically deeper, France was once a military and economic powerhouse. There's a reason French castles are more refined than their Eastern European contemporaries, and its linked to a lower defense requirement spawned from a greater stability. Giving France the wherewithal to bankrupt its rivals would put them on that leading edge again. The glory of Rome and the military might of the Greeks are tales long in slumber beneath a mantle of dust. France may be looking to do some spring cleaning in that regard. If Germany reels in Europe with its fiscal policies, and France resets the military lineup of the region, we could be looking at a wave of Continental strife between two local nations. Now THAT will be a difficult one to pick sides in...
Sure would be tough to pick a side. It would depend on which side of the fight offered the better view of the two of them going at each other.
Why pick a side? Many Western European nations are considered allies to the U.S. That means our arms manufacturers can sell the good stuff to both sides.
Good point. As long as they don't pay us in Euros.
No kidding. No, it'd probably be dollars. U.S. military aid is often given as credit with the understanding that it has to be spent at U.S. vendors. Of course we'd be borrowing that money from China, but as long as it's for a good cause...
I want the popcorn concession. Is that too much to ask?
